FLORIDA PROSTATE CANCER NETWORK SERVES MORE THAN 300 AT FIRST TOWN HALL MEETING ON MEN'S HEALTH

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Tampa, FL -- October 7, 2003 - More than 300 guests turned out for the  first-ever Town Hall Meeting on Men's Health Issues September 27 in  Tampa.

The Florida Prostate Cancer Network (FPCN) here in Tampa organized  this full day of informative, interactive sessions, where men, and the women who love them, can get answers and gather information on all kinds of health issues.

Timed to coincide with September as National Prostate Cancer Awareness  Month, the entire event was free.

It wasn't just about prostate cancer though. All day at the Tampa Convention Center, guests were able to talk to more than 15 experts  and doctors about colon cancer, diabetes, heart disease and stroke, and men's sexual health issues.

There were seminars, displays and presentations, as well as an open, frank discussion on the impact prostate cancer has on a couple's sexual relationship. Special guests Desiree Lyon Howe, author of "His Prostate and Me," and her husband, Dr. Richard Howe, were there to share their  story and answer questions.

Thanks to the generous support of sponsors, the day even included complimentary Continental breakfast and a box lunch for each guest, plus concurrent sessions for women. The women's health issues addressed included hormones and hormone replacement therapy, breast and colon cancer, and cardiovascular health.

FPCN is a model state coalition. Its programs include a speakers' bureau; counseling referral program and peer counselor network; educational forums and health fairs; support groups; a newsletter and website; and active volunteer efforts.
