ABOUT THE PROBLEM

PROSTATE CANCER NEEDS ADVOCATES!

Every year in Florida nearly 14,000 more men are diagnosed with prostate cancer.  Except for skin cancer, this is the most diagnosed type of cancer in the state....in fact, in the nation!  This is important to us here in Florida, because our state also has the second highest rate of all new cancer cases in the USA.

But, while prostate cancer is the #1 diagnosed cancer in men and the #2 leading cause of cancer-
related deaths in American men, prostate cancer receives just 3.6% of the federal dollars for cancer research.  Prostate cancer advocates work to increase the total federal prostate cancer funding by contacting Congressmen, Senators and the President.  Florida does not currently recognize prostate cancer as a health priority.

Your voice is important and needs to be heard!

Statistically, black males are twice as likely to contract prostate cancer as white males, and all men
over 65 run twice the risk as those between 50 and 65.  Since Florida is the "oldest" state and one
with a higher than average African-American population, our demographics do play a part.
